WHAT IS A REFORMER?

The Pilates reformer is a traditional piece of Pilates equipment which looks like a bed with springs, a sliding carriage, ropes and pulleys. The origins of the Pilates reformer date back to the original Pilates studio in New York in the 1920’s and was designed by Joseph Pilates himself.

Reformer Pilates combines the traditional principals and movements of mat Pilates with a Reformer machine. Reformer Pilates works the whole body through a large range of motion, ideal for building and toning muscles as well increasing stability through the joints and is great for rehabilitation purposes.

Reformer Pilates allows for a wide range of exercises to accommodate all bodies, that focus on improving strength, flexibility, balance, and core stability. What sets Reformer Pilates apart is its ability to create a full-body workout that challenges both the muscles and the mind, emphasising precise movements, breath, control, and alignment, promoting increased body awareness and muscle activation. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced practitioner, Reformer Pilates offers a low-impact yet highly effective way to strengthen muscles, improve posture, enhance flexibility, and promote overall well-being. It's a versatile and engaging exercise method that can be adapted to accommodate various fitness levels and is known for its transformative effects on both body and mind.

The famous and influential – from Margot Robbie to Meghan Markle, the Kardashians to David Beckham – swear by the body conditioning benefits of reformer Pilates (where the low-impact, mind-body discipline is performed on specialist equipment, allowing for a more dynamic, supportive, and/or targeted workout). But the practice is for all, whatever your physique or fitness ability.
